MOÏZ
Description
What? MOÏZ “designs and manufactures autonomous sensors”.
What, exactly? Most sensors require a power source to function. For example, semiconductor sensors like silicon must be biased so that the bulk of the material is entirely depleted of charge carriers. This voltage bias can be anywhere between a few volts to a few thousand volts, depending on the technology and sensor specification. On the contrary, MOÏZ’s idea is to scavenge ambient heat: a silicon chip then converts it into electricity via the Seebeck effect and biases the sensor.
