Where? Lancing, UK
What? Micron Semiconductor designs and manufacture custom radiation sensors based on silicon and CVD diamond. Devices are used in high-energy research, medical imaging, space, defence and energy markets.
What, exactly? Semiconductor materials are sensitive to incoming radiations, such as controlled beams (think CERN, synchrotrons) or ambient (think space). Different semiconductors show different properties. Silicon is already widely used and CVD diamond is proving an adequate solution in more challenging environments.
Disclaimer: I must mention my employment at Micron Semiconductor, in my role of New Technology Development Manager.
